Celebrating 40 Years: A Letter from our CEO

Anniversaries are a time to celebrate. They also offer a chance to reflect on the past and look forward to the future.

Ellwood officially turned 40 years in 2017 and we certainly have a lot to celebrate. In particular:

  • We have 182 clients, the majority of which have been with us more than 10 years.
  • We have 59 employees who are personally invested in assisting our clients to achieve their goals.
  • We remain independent and unbiased. Despite significant industry consolidation and the persistence of soft dollar arrangements, we are 100 percent employee-owned, with all of our revenue generated from fees paid in hard dollars.

When John Ellwood founded the firm in 1977, he had a mission: to provide clients with independent, impartial advice. He knew this model would be the most advantageous for clients and would stand the test of time.

While a lot has changed since those early years (floppy disks are gone, and email has replaced paper), our dedication to client service and unbiased advice has not. I see it daily in the behavior of our employees. They share a drive for excellence with each other and with our clients and work tirelessly to strive to grow assets for families, plan participants, charities and businesses.

Our vision for the future remains unchanged. We will continue to align with our clients’ interests, building customized investment programs and striving to provide conflict-free advice. Moreover, Ellwood will continue investing in employees, new technologies and practice area expertise, while endeavoring to steer clear of industry fads and pitfalls.

Employees, it’s an honor to lead you. Clients, it’s a privilege to serve you. I can’t wait to see what’s in store over the next 40 years. Our greatest accomplishments are yet to come.
